Behind the Books - Inspiration
Inspiration can come from anywhere.
Bryony Fairview: Weather Witch was inspired by Rebecca's daughters and the crazy weather they were having in Ireland at the time. Ellie Juneman: Earth Witch (in training) was a continuation of this with an emphasis on kindness and working through struggles. The world was still in lockdown and the world outside became a scary place Rebecca felt it was important to address this fear and also show the silver lining of kindness in the world.
For The Legend of Dragonfoot, Rebecca delved into her family tree and added a sprinkle of the mythology she adored as a child. Rebecca's family is a vibrant tapestry of characters – her grandparents and their grandparents journeyed from places like India, Germany, France, England, and Wales, bringing with them their tales of adventure. These stories have been passed down through generations, and they made her childhood feel like pure magic.
As Rebecca grew up, she was delighted to begin weaving her own stories and adventures. Those adventures eventually led Rebecca to one of the most magical places in the world – Ireland. Here, with her young family, they immerse themselves in the rich myths and fae folklore of this mystical island.
Throughout The Legend of Dragonfoot, you’ll find nods to Rebecca's family, both past and present, as well as hints of the mythology and folklore that have always inspired her. Magic is all around us – and she hopes this story helps you see it too.
